Free Safe Carry Safety Course

South Carolina’s firearm laws have changed, and with those changes comes a greater need for clear, practical, everyday firearm safety education. Ricochet Range is proud to offer a free SC Safe Carry safety course designed for South Carolina citizens who want to better understand responsible firearm ownership without the pressure of a live-fire qualification.

This course is ideal for anyone who is new to firearms, unfamiliar with safe handling practices, or simply wants a stronger foundation before deciding whether to pursue additional training. It is especially encouraged for homes with children, new firearm owners, and individuals who may not consider themselves “gun people” but still want to make safe and informed decisions.

This is not a shooting class and does not include a course of fire. The focus is safety, awareness, storage, and responsibility in real-world settings. Students will learn how to think through firearm safety in the home, in vehicles, and in daily life. The goal is to make the information approachable, practical, and easy to understand.

There are three important reasons to take this class. First, it is built for beginners, families, and non-enthusiasts. You do not need prior firearms experience to attend. Second, it focuses on real-life safety instead of range performance, including safe storage, children in the home, and responsible transportation. Third, it helps prevent unsafe habits before they start by giving new and curious firearm owners a clear foundation before carrying, storing, handling, or purchasing a firearm.

The course will cover the core principles of firearm safety, including treating every firearm as loaded, keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keeping your finger off the trigger until you have made the conscious decision to fire, and knowing your target and what is around and beyond it. Students will also discuss safe storage, children and firearms, responsible transportation, and the importance of securing firearms when they are not under direct control.

This class is built for the person who has questions but may not know where to start. You do not need to be an experienced shooter. You do not need to bring a firearm. You do not need to be comfortable on the range. You only need a willingness to learn how to be safer around firearms.
