SLED’s New System

Happy New Year everyone,

I hope you all had a great holiday and are starting the new year off well.

I want to provide an important update regarding fingerprinting and online scheduling for NEW South Carolina Concealed Weapon Permit (CWP) applications.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), in partnership with IdentoGo by IDEMIA, is in the process of bringing a new online CWP registration and electronic fingerprinting system online. This system will allow applicants to begin a NEW CWP application online and schedule an appointment at an IdentoGo location where fingerprints and application documents will be submitted electronically to SLED.

At this time, the online scheduling site is NOT yet active.

Please note the following:

  • The new system is expected to come online soon, but it is not live yet
  • Students should check the official SLED/IdentoGo link frequently for availability
  • Please do not call our office regarding the status of the site
  • Paper applications mailed directly to SLED are still being accepted and processed

Once the site is active, applicants will be able to:

  • Start a NEW CWP application online
  • Schedule an appointment at an IdentoGo physical location
  • Have fingerprints captured electronically
  • Submit required documents digitally to SLED for processing

If you have questions specifically about the CWP process itself, SLED has asked that applicants contact THEIR OFFICE directly:

SLED Regulatory Department
📞 803-896-7015

Thank you for your patience as this new system comes online, and thank you for helping keep communication streamlined by checking the official link rather than calling our office.

When their website goes live, this web page will auto direct you to their site, and give you more detail.

Stay safe, and I wish you all a great year ahead.

  2. Hi I am confused by this in an open carry state? Why are we still doing this?
    Thanks!

    • Having a SC CWP allows for three main benefits. One, when buying a firearm and not having a SC CWP, you are required to have a background check prior to the firearm being transferred. Having a valid SC CWP exempts you from this requirement (This is per the Brady Act). Second, if you travel to a state that is not Constitutional Carry for legal US residents but still has reciprocity with SC (due to the training requirement), you will still be able to carry. Third, though you are able to carry, constitutionally, you still must have a working knowledge of the laws and regulations. Having specific instruction helps to bridge the gap.
